EXCERPT

“Can’t fix that, can fix this.”

He leans down, and his lips are on mine before I can protest. My mouth opens as a strangled gasp leaves it. My body flinches, and a flood of warmth travels through my veins, making my entire body feel like it’s on fire. I shudder as he presses his mouth harder against mine. His lips are soft and full, his body large and firm as he presses himself against me. My hands are limp beside me, I can’t move, I’m like a rag doll in his arms. His tongue finds mine, and fireworks explode in my head, I’m almost sure I see stars. Then suddenly, my hands come to life, and I thrust them into his hair, tugging him closer. My mouth is devouring his, my tongue dancing with his in hungry, angry strokes. He growls, and presses a hand to my lower back, pressing my body up against his hard, aching erection. I untangle one of my hands from his hair, and run it down his firm back. I slip it under his shirt, and feel his hot, hard skin. It’s taut, and his muscles bunch as I slide my fingers up, feeling every inch of his muscled flesh.

Then his mouth is off mine, and I’m stumbling backwards. He’s reeling backwards just as quickly, his eyes confused. He’s panting so heavily I can see his chest rising and falling rapidly. His eyes are wild, like he’s just made a huge mistake. I press my fingers to my swollen lips, did that just happen? Did Spike just…kiss me? I’ve never been kissed like that in my entire life, not once. That kiss, it was a kiss of passion. It was real, beautiful, gut wrenching, soul shattering…but mostly, it was mind fucking. What did it mean? Spike’s fists are clenched, and his eyes are a mix of anger and lust.

“Now we’re even. Get on the bike,” he rasps.

The evening was going about as well as I expected. How likely is it in any given mating-game situation that the wingman will fall for the girl's moral support sidekick? In this case, given my mindset, the odds were exactly zero. With the pounding music, even trying to make idle conversation was pointless.
We got our subs and energy drinks and found an empty patch of lawn to sit on. Bre cooed to Dan. Jake and I were awkward and ate mostly in silence. My gaze landed on an Up All Night sign advertising the events of the evening.
Precision Piercing. Specials—Tonight only! Half off the usual price. Bellybutton, ears, cartilage, and noses only.
My heart pounded in my ears. I'd read enough. I knew what I wanted, what I had wanted for a couple of years now but was too rebellious to do—pierce my navel. To understand how not piercing my bellybutton is rebellious, you have to know my mom. It was what she wanted me to do, so it was exactly what I refused to do. But now I didn't care what she thought. I could pierce or not pierce at my pleasure. I was of age and didn't need her permission. She'd never know unless I wanted her to. And even then, she wouldn't be around to gloat and enjoy her triumph.
Anyway, that wasn't the way I saw it. Doing what I wanted without regard to her was my victory. I looked around at the party atmosphere that I should have been enjoying and found myself almost smiling.
Dan and Jake wolfed down their sandwiches and were ready to party. Bre wrapped the remains of hers, ready to toss it so she could get on with the evening. I'd barely touched mine, but that wasn't unusual. Since the breakup I'd lost my appetite for just about everything in life and ten pounds along with it. And I hadn't been overweight to begin with.
Dan offered Bre a hand up. "Dance or take in the magic show?"
"Dance!" Bre laughed and took his arm, smiling up at him coyly.
"Body piercing!" I said in unison with Bre as I stood and dusted the grass off my butt.
Three pairs of eyes turned on me. I kept smiling. "What? It'll be fun. It's not something you do every day. What better way to remember the start of our illustrious college careers here than with a new piercing?"
I spoke boldly for someone who only had her ears pierced.
Beside me, Jake shook his head. "Guys don't get pierced. Not at Up All Night." He spoke like an expert.
I ignored him and appealed to Bre. She shook her head. "The line will be too long by now. We'll miss everything else. You can get pierced any time. I'll go with you whenever you want."
"But not for half price," I said.
"Ellie, come on." Bre's eyes begged me to be reasonable.
I waved her off. "You guys go ahead. I'm off to get my bellybutton pierced. I'll text you when I'm done and catch up with you later. Have fun!"
Without waiting for an answer, I spun and ran off through the crowd toward the SUB, feeling free and exhilarated for the first time all summer.
My exhilaration lasted as I wound through the crowded first floor of the SUB, following the signs to Precision Piercing's station. Up the stairs to the second floor toward the ballroom, right until I saw the long line and my courage failed.
Jake had been an ass about things, but he was right about one thing—there were no guys in line for piercing. Bre was right, too. There was a good chance I was already too late. Any minute they'd be shutting off the line, saying they'd reached their maximum.
I stood there, not quite in line, staring and debating with myself. I'd just ditched my roommate and she was going to be pissed about it, especially if I came back without another hole in my body. On the other hand, I could claim I'd been turned away because the line was too long and she'd have gloating rights for the rest of the semester. Maybe even the rest of the time we knew each other. At homecoming twenty years from now, I still wouldn't hear the end of it.
"You'd better get in line before it's too late."
It took me a second to realize the sexy male voice was speaking to me. Startled, I looked around for the source. What was a guy doing here, anyway?
When I found it, my heart did an odd little flip. Sitting on a bench with an instant icepack pressed to his right eye was a guy that was too gorgeous to be benched. How could I have missed him? He had a wicked smile calculated to make girls melt, and his left eye danced with amusement as he watched me. He sat with his legs spread wide, just inviting a girl to stand between them and coo condolences on his injury. Touch his cheek. Offer him any comfort he wanted. He looked dangerous with one eye covered and the way a lock of dark hair fell against the icepack. Yet sympathetic at the same time, like you just wanted to take care of him.
Even though he was sitting, it was obvious he was tall and athletically built beneath the T-shirt and shorts he wore. "Well?"
I blinked. "I'm thinking."
"The window of opportunity is closing." He stood and walked over to stand next to me, so close I could smell the delicious scent of his cologne.
"Yes," I said. "I know."
He ignored any sarcasm that had slipped into my tone. "What do you want to have pierced?"
"My bellybutton." I just blurted it out, wondering why this complete stranger inspired my confidence. And why he cared.
He nodded. "Good choice. Bellybutton rings are hot. Every woman should have one."

Becoming More Blog Tour and Giveaway!!

Title: Becoming More
Author: Bayli Lane
Genre: New Adult Romance
At first it was all freedom, fun, and games for Lilly Fairfield. Being a freshman in college was supposed to create some of the best memories of her life, especially with her best friend, Lauren, and longtime boyfriend, Sander, by her side.

But the excitement begins to slip away when the people closest to her start to change. They begin moving in a direction Lilly doesn’t want to go, forcing Lilly to be faced with a decision. Should she fight for her relationships with both Sander and Lauren or move on to something different? Something unknown. Someone like…

Colton Davenport. Colton isn’t Lilly’s typical type. He's shockingly sexy with his colorful tattoos, shiny silver lip ring, and ear gauges. His smile alone leaves her breathless. Then again, she hasn’t had a specific type other than Sander. When she meets Colton she feels an automatic attraction that stuns her into utter stillness. She can’t look away, doesn’t want to look away.

Lilly must decide between a life with Sander, a life she always thought she wanted, and an unknown path with Colton.

Will Lilly make the right choices for her future, Becoming More?

**This book is a New Adult Romance - intended for a mature audience.**

“Are you okay?” Lauren says.
I look at her and realize that I have a waterfall of tears spilling down my cheeks and into my lap, “No, Lauren, I’m not.”
She gets up, comes to my side and hugs me, “It’s okay Lilly! He’s probably still kind of drunk or something. Maybe he was still really worried from not knowing where you were last night. There are a whole lot of reasons as to why he’s acting like he is. Maybe he’s nervous for classes to start, and he feels like he has to do really well or something?”
I listen to her give me every excuse she can think of, and I welcome the relief I feel from her words. She’s probably right. He’s must be stressing about a lot of things right now and just doesn’t know how to deal with those feelings. Tomorrow I’ll call him and plan a time for us to meet up and have a civilized conversation. Surely by tomorrow he will have calmed down enough that he’s back to normal. I embrace Lauren’s excuses for him. Tomorrow we’ll talk. I’ll explain how I feel, and he will feel horrible for making me feel that way. We’ll kiss and make up. I give Lauren a placid smile and wipe the last of my tears away.
“Thanks Lauren, you’re right. It’s probably nothing serious.”
She gives an encouraging smile, “Of course I’m right! Now may I go back to my nap?” she asks.
I laugh and gesture to her bed, “By all means.”

She falls into her bed and turns onto her stomach. Moments later I hear her heavy breathing. Thank God I have Lauren to talk some sense into me. Of course Sander loves me.  He’s just going through something. We will get through it, no doubt about it.

Becoming More is Bayli Lane's debut novel and follows Lillian Fairfield as she leaves her small Indiana town to start her freshman year of college. Lily, her boyfriend of 4 years, Sander, and best friend, Lauren, embark together and they are all excited shake out of the small town and are granted long awaited freedom of going away to college. Once they arrive, things are not quite going the way Lilly had thought as both Lauren and Sander go their separate ways, leaving Lily to seek companionship with her new-found friend Clarissa, and her circle of rock band boys. She also meets Colton Davenport. Right from the start these two are drawn together. Lilly can't seem to get her mind off of Colton. He's one of the sexiest guy's she has ever come across with his messy hair, tattoos and silver lip ring. But mostly he is there when Sander and Lauren aren't. They soon become close friends and Colton is there to rescue Lilly in some of her most desperate moments. But Lilly's roots are deep with Sander and Lauren, and her fierce loyalty in them becomes her own undoing as the both betray her time and time again. And her relationships with them compromise her relationship with Colton, and he's not willing to stick around if she's always going to be stuck on her first love.

Overall, I would say this book wasn't my cup of tea. The story had great potential, I am a fan of coming of age college romances, but by the end there was really nothing about the story that set it apart from the many other books in this genre, and mostly I really did not like Lilly. She was annoyingly whiney, it was beyond angst and more towards irritating, childhood behavior. There was way too much inner dialogue for my taste, and she seemed to repeat herself over and over. I had a hard time sympathizing with Lilly's plight, her only reasoning of staying with her physically abusive boyfriend was that they had been together for four years (and if we do the math that means they started "dating" at 14 years old, it didn't seem substantial enough). We never really saw a sweet, loveable side of Sander, even when he was being nice he came across as douchy. I did like Colton a lot, what's not to like about a sexy rock singer, who most definitely knows what he's doing in the bedroom department. But I was not buying his insta-love for Lilly, and I so disliked her character that it made me question Colton's taste and judgement. She really didn't do anything for him making her remotely likable. Though there were some parts of the book that I didn't much care for, it was an entertaining read and I really liked Colton! I would say give it a try!

Bayli Lane didn’t realize how much she loved creating a world from nothing until college. She went to Marian University where she majored in Communications but in her spare time wrote and read. Her love for reading is what really brought out her desire to create her own novel. After starting loads of stories and not finishing them, she finally decided it was time to put her passion to work. Becoming More is her first novel but certainly not her last. Bayli lives with her husband, Tim, in Indiana where she is probably sitting with a large cup of coffee and her computer working on her next book.

Finders Keepers Blog Tour and GC Giveaway!!

Title: Finders Keepers (Lost and Found, #3)
Author: Nicole Williams
Release date: September 16, 2013
Age Group: Mature YA/New Adult
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Tour organized by: AToMR Tours; http://atomrbookblogtours.com
There’s tortured. And there’s Garth Black.

His life has been a constant carousel of tragedy and disappointment, including his love life. Of course, applying the term “love” to Garth’s conquests is a gross misuse of the word. Some people were made to give and accept love, and others weren’t. Garth Black redefines the “others” category. He’s made a vow that the day he meets a woman who could sucker him into falling in love will be the day he runs away.

Garth’s plan has one flaw. What happens when he’s already fallen hard for a girl before the warning signs and red flags go up? What happens when the love he’s avoided his entire life brings him to his knees? What happens when Garth Black lets the dirtiest four letter word he’s ever known into his dark, lonely life?

This cowboy’s about to find out he can control some things, and he can’t control others. Number one on the what he can’t control list?
Love.

SO GOOD!

<3<3<3 Garth Black!!

This series gets better every book. The first book was just okay, the second was good, but Finders Keepers is great! I like Jesse and Rowen's story is touching, but for me, I couldn't wait for Garth's story. You just know there's more to his story than the dark, handsome, and brooding attitude. His character has always appealed to me, and even more now!

I love that this story is told from his POV! While there are some parts where you know a female is writing a male's POV, for the most part it stays true to him. You can really feel his struggle to get out from under the Black name, and discover what he wants for his future. The one thing he knows he does want is Josie! Little by little, they work on the past and start to move forward. But sometimes you have to sacrifice your happiness for the ones you love, especially if you're the person causing the troubles. Can Josie and Garth work through their issues and find each other in the end?

Overall, I love that we get some resolution on Jesse and Rowen's story. We get a whole book of the Cocky Cowboy that we love, and a good dose of angst. I would have liked a bit more of the love connection between the two, especially with the history they share, but even with that missing it was a darn good read!

The Space in Between Blog Tour and Giveaway!!

Title: The Space In Between
Author: Brittainy C. Cherry
Publication date: 9/17/2013
She’s scarred by her past.

ANDREA EVANS is traumatized and guilt-ridden by the death of her fiancĂ©e. Tired of the gossiping small town, she travels to New York City to pursue her dream of dance. When her dreams don’t instantly come to fruition, she ends up working at a strip club with her best friend.

He’s uncertain of his future.

COOPER DAVIDSON is a famous photographer and reality television star trying to flee from his own life filled with paparazzi, mental health clinics, and a cheating wife who is pregnant.

When Andrea and Cooper’s paths cross, they realize how damaged and in need of escapism they both are. The two create an arrangement to explore the space in between chaos and order with one another. The rules are simple—no emotional connections, no talking about the past, no speaking of the future, and when one finds order, the other walks away.

All is well until Cooper falls in love with Andrea. Will Andrea open up and let someone else into her closed off heart? Can Cooper stop the tabloids and his crazed wife from exposing his past and painting Andrea as a prostitute to the world before her life spirals back down to the land of chaos?

The Space In Between was a great debut novel from Brittainy C. Cherry! Her writing was easy to read and I loved the duel POVs! There was a good amount of sadness and angst but also smexy time and funny moments.

The story follows these two beautifully broken characters, through different stages of grief and recovery. Andrea, a promising dancer, is dealing with the death of the love of her life and the grief that came along with his death. Cooper is also dealing with loss, but his loss comes with a lot of pain and deceit. Together these two decide to be broken together, but there may just be too much in the past that's not dealt with to move on.

The only thing I didn't much care for in this book were the secondary characters Eric (brother), Ladasha (BFF), and Michelle (Cooper's cousin). There was too much drama with them towards the end of the book, and it didn't seem believable and kinda took away from the story. I also thought the ending was a bit rushed but I really liked how everything seemed to come full circle.

Overall, I liked this book! There is a certain grittiness to the writing, and the angst is palpable especially at the end of the book. I would recommend it to anyone wanting to read a short, angsty, yet sweet romance!

ARC provided in exchange for honest review.
