The Heart's Ashes Review

The Heart's AshesThe Heart's Ashes by A. M. Hudson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Amara finally starts to get her life on track after her brutal attack, but what is life if your heart isn’t whole? Ara’s inner struggle between what is right, and what she wants is wearing her down. She has to deal with a very complex layer of emotions, including a new found lustful desire. The tangled web that Ara weaves, only thrusts her deeper into the vampire world. She confronts physical pain, emotional anguish, and deception, but the love of her new husband and family help her pull through. Is their love strong enough to endure the tasks that lie ahead? I can only hope that Amara-Rose gets her happily ever after.

I absolutely love the Dark Secrets series, and was not let down by the third installment The Heart’s Ashes. Angela Hudson has a way of writing that can fill your heart with joy, or make it cringe with pain. She has filled this series with so much emotion, that it can be hard to swallow at times. I couldn’t even make it past the first chapter without tearing up. I love the character development in this book, and the climax was unexpected (even better than the other books). I was extremely honored to be able to review this book early, and can’t wait to see what is in store for Ara in the next book.

I HIGHLY recommend this series.

The Mind Thieves Review

The Mind Thieves (Mind Readers, #2)The Mind Thieves by Lori Brighton
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I really like this series, its different than a lot of the typical YA books out right now. Both books in this series have kept me on the edge of my seat. In fact, I read both books within a 24 hour time frame. The story line is action packed and is well written. Though I feel there are a lot of similarities with the previous book, I did like the twists the author added. There were a few unexpected parts in this book that I really liked. I think Lori Brighton does an amazing job making me, as the reader, feel the desperation, anxiety, and frustration that Cameron is feeling.
The only reason I didn’t give this book 5 stars, is because I am slightly frustrated by the fact that Cam hasn’t figured out how to play everyone’s game to get her answers. Instead, she just runs from her problems, the only time (in my opinion) that Cameron is strong is when she literally has to run for her life. However, with that being said, I have high hopes for the next book. I fully expect for her to step into the role that she is meant to have and develop into the strong woman that she needs to be.
