Q: Best Cover? What is the best cover of a book that you've read and didn't like?

I thought this book was okay.. but the story had NOTHING to do with the cover. It was also more for middle grade.

What do you think? What book had a beautiful cover but you didn't really like it?

Swoon Thursday- (4)

A HAWT meme sponsored by YA Bound. From the book you’re currently reading, or one you just finished, tell us what made you SWOON. What got your heart pounding, your skin tingling, and your stomach fluttering.

Shout it out on Twitter with the hashtag #YABound, post it here in the comments, or grab the adorable button above and share it on your blog! We want to know :-)

This weeks Swoon Thursday is from Shatter Me. Again, I'm fangirling over this book. I love-love-loved it!!!!! This is just a portion of a very swoony scene between Juliette and Adam. Please forgive any errors, as I typed this from and audiobook, so the punctuation/ capitalization may be a little off. But you get the jest...

He looks at me with so much emotion that I nearly crack in half.

"God Juliette!"

He's kissing me. Once. Twice. Until I've had a taste and realize I'll never have enough. He's everywhere, up my back and over my arms, and suddenly he's kissing me harder, deeper with a fervent, urgent need I've never known before. He breaks for air only to bury his lips in my neck, along my collarbone, up my chin and cheeks. And I'm gasping for oxygen. And he's destroying me with his hands.

Shatter Me Review

Shatter MeShatter Me by Tahereh Mafi

My rating: 6 of 5 stars

I am so Fangirling over this book!!! It is the only book I have ever wanted to give six stars to.. It is so beautifully, amazingly, fantastically written. I was/am nervous writing a review for this book, because I wanted my words/review to do Tahereh Mafi's talent justice.

When I first finished the book I was like "OMGRKFHA;D VIJHA" then I was like "ALSKDVNEM;LKERJ!!" Seriously, there isn't a sentence in this book that cannot be quoted. Each sentence, feeling, emotion tells its own story. (BTW.. I listened to the Audiobook, and will try to do my best when quoting the book. Sorry in advance.)

Raindrops are my only reminder that clouds have a heartbeat. That I have one, too.

Even the simplest description of "blushing" is turned into something beautiful.

I am wearing dead cotton on my limbs and a blush of roses on my face.

The plot of the book was fairly simple, Juliette’s touch is lethal thus The Reestablishment wants to use her as a weapon. She wants needs to get away. A flying white bird with streaks of gold helps her escape. Escape to a place where Juliette can truly belong. Tahereh Mafi's writing takes this plot and explodes it into a million different feelings.

Swoonworthy moments.. Check! There were about three or four swoonworthy moments, that my heart literally jumped out of my chest and painted my face red. Shatter me was also chalked full of hunky men! Adam with blue eyes as deep as the deepest ocean. And Warner's eyes glistened like a pale emerald.

My body is a carnivorous flower, a poisonous houseplant, a loaded gun with a million triggers, and he's more than ready to fire.

This book is a MUST.. MUST.. MUST read!

Waiting on Wednesday-(2)

Waiting on Wednesday' is a weekly event hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

Okay.. I just finished Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi and I am so FANGIRLING over this book!! So naturally, I can't wait to read Destroy Me!!!

Goodreads Blurb:

Perfect for the fans of Shatter Me who are desperately awaiting the release of Unravel Me, this novella-length digital original will bridge the gap between these two novels from the perspective of the villain we all love to hate, Warner, the ruthless leader of Sector 45.

In Tahereh Mafi’s Shatter Me, Juliette escaped from The Reestablishment by seducing Warner—and then putting a bullet in his shoulder. But as she’ll learn in Destroy Me, Warner is not that easy to get rid of. . .

Back at the base and recovering from his near-fatal wound, Warner must do everything in his power to keep his soldiers in check and suppress any mention of a rebellion in the sector. Still as obsessed with Juliette as ever, his first priority is to find her, bring her back, and dispose of Adam and Kenji, the two traitors who helped her escape. But when Warner’s father, The Supreme Commander of The Reestablishment, arrives to correct his son’s mistakes, it’s clear that he has much different plans for Juliette. Plans Warner simply cannot allow.

Set after Shatter Me and before its forthcoming sequel, Unravel Me, Destroy Me is a novella told from the perspective of Warner, the ruthless leader of Sector 45.

ARC-Blink Once Review

Blink OnceBlink Once by Cylin Busby

Publisher:Bloomsbury Children's Books
Pub Date:September 04, 2012
ISBN:9781599908182

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

ACR courtesy of Bloomsbury Children's Books and Netgalley. (it took me a few requests to get it, and the hassle was well worth it!)

I absolutely love-loved this book!!! The story was so sweet, yet heart-wrenching. I was hoping for a different ending, but the ending Cylin Busby wrote was absolutely perfect! This was a short read, and quickly landed it's self on my favorites list. Blink Once was so touching!

Waking up in the hospital is the last thing West expected. He couldn't move or talk, he was paralyzed from a biking accident. He is distraught because he has no way to figure out how he got here or how long he has been in the hospital. He is plagued with terrible nightmares too. That was until he meets Olivia. She was the girl in the room next to him. She figures out a way to communicate with West, and the two eventually fall in love. She checks on him when he isn't well, takes walks with him, and even reads Harry Potter to him.

Soon, West's parents hire a doctor to do an experimental surgery on him in hopes that he'll recover. After the surgery, West is determined to get back to Olivia. But there are secrets that he has to unravel, secrets that Olivia didn't tell him...

ARC Confessions of an Angry Girl

Confessions of an Angry Girl (Confessions, #1)Confessions of an Angry Girl by Louise Rozett

Title: Confessions of an Angry Girl
SubTitle: So what if she has anger issues? You would, too.
Publisher: Harlequin
Imprint: HarlequinTEEN
Pub Date: August 28, 2012
ISBN: 9780373210480

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

ARC Courtesy of Netgalley and HarlequinTEEN, thank you!

*3.5 Stars* I really wanted to like this book more, but the ending left me up in the air. I liked the writing style and the premise of the book. I could relate to Rose's anger. There were a few swoonworthy moments, which was a plus! I also loved the chapter headings. This book was the right amount of anger and sarcasm.

I guess my problem was with Jamie Forta, I didn't get him.. neither did the main character Rose, and the book just left it like that. I will definitely read the second book in this series, just because I need a resolve. The other minor problem was its length, I think it could have been a bit longer to tie up the loose ends.

ARC Dearly, Beloved Review

Dearly, Beloved (Gone With the Respiration, #2)

Title: Dearly, Beloved
By: Lia Habel
SubTitle: A Zombie Novel
Publisher: Random House Publishing Group
Imprint: Del Rey
Pub Date: September 25, 2012
ISBN: 9780345523341

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

ARC courtesy of Netgalley, Random House Publishing group. Thank you!

I loved this book, not quite as much as Dearly, Departed but close. It was missing some of the romance that the first book had in it. I still love the writing style of Lia Habel, and the fact that each major character has chapters and is told from their POV. Bram, sweet.. sweet Bram, I love him!! He is so kind, caring, considerate, and selfless. The ending.. eeekkkk, I loved it!!!

Just as the city starts to come to terms with the undead, a new strain of the Laz is discovered. Gangs of humans(The Murder) and gangs of Zombies (The Changed) threaten the already fragile New Victorian life. Bram, Nora, and their group of Zombies fight to keep this delicate balance intact, as well as their lives.

Nora is nearly abducted, Pam and her family have a close call with one of the groups, and everyone is after zombie with the new strain of the Laz. New allies are made and old ones are lost in this gripping tale of Lia Habel's Dearly, Beloved.

Word and Breath Review

Word and Breath (Wordless Chronicles, #1)Word and Breath by Susannah Noel

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This was an intriguing read, this is one of those books you will just devour!! I couldn't put it down.. the flow of the book was perfect. There were several swoonworthy moments. The overall premise and setting was interesting as well. Sweet yet sexy, definitely a 5 star in my opinion and a must read.

Post Apocalypse.. reading is nearly extinct. Those who can read work for the Office of Readers, trying to find codes in written text. Riana tried to maintain a low profile, but is suddenly thrust into an underground rebel movement. Her sister gets kidnapped, she gets shot at, and an incredibly sexy Soul-Breather named Mikel is interested in her. She soon learns that his interest was initially to betray her. Riana also reunites with Conner, a long lost friend, that is willing to help her find her sister and answers to her problems. The the two men swallow their pride and work together to solve Riana's problems.

One of my many favourite quotes:

"Have you ever met someone's eyes-maybe just accidentally across a room-and you made a connection with them? For just that instant you know what they're feeling. You feel what they're feeling. You've connected."

MadLibs Monday and Giveaway Featuring Elle Casey

This week's MadLib features Elle Casey. Author of War of the Fae series and Apocalypsis series, as well as Wrecked and My Vampire Summer. Elle is an avid writer and reader. Mom, wife, professor, attorney. American living in southern France since 2010. YA Fantasy nut. WARNING: Her books will have you in stitches laughing!

Summer Vacation

It was the end of the Swashbuckling year, and summer was upon us. We gathered together for the roadtrip of our swords. Our Destination, you Pirate Ship? Mermaid Pajamas, Inc.World, of course, with a nice stop at the beach for some Boxing and Poker Chip bathing. Of course, as it always is, things didn`t go exactly as haunted. One car got an audacious tire, and another ran out of Wine. We didn`t even get there until Eleven days after we had planned to. But it didn`t matter. We were determined to have violin. So we went to the sensible theme park... and it swaggered. We went to the beach, and it was closed due to the Ruby Ring. So what did we do for our vacation? We drove over 1000 Thumb-Widths to stay in a Church and watch a bunch of Amulets.

My Swoon Thursday is form Dearly, Departed by Lia Habel. I just love the love story she portrays between the two characters. One is living, the other dead, well undead. But it is so sweet:

Bram met me halfway. He Scooped me up with one arm and pulled my head towards his. I didn't fight it in the least. He kissed me harshly, and I returned it, Leaping up on my toes, seeking out his chapped, broken lips with my own, inexpertly, needfully. And then he just held me as I cried, soaking his dirty T-shirt with my tears, his cheek on my head.

"I thought you were gone," I managed to get out. "I thought you were really gone..."

"I thought I was, too," he said, laughing weakly. "But I'd never leave you, if I had the choice. I was going to get back to you, or grind to dust trying."

Waiting on Wednesday- (1)

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

This week's pre-publication "can't-wait-to-read" selection is:

Love Unrehearsed (Love #2)
by Tina Reber (Goodreads Author)

Ryan is in LA to promote his latest film, Reparation, which is premiering Friday night. It’s time to introduce Taryn to “his world.”

So if you feel a tad unsatisfied with some of the open-ended threads from Love Unscripted, we still have Slipknot to film with the enamored Jonathan Follweiler at the helm, then there is the global premier of Seaside II with private jets and foreign countries to visit. Seaside III is scheduled to start production in the fall and Pete and Tammy’s wedding is in there too. And what about that script for The Isletin Solution? What are we going to do about that? Hmm…

More secrets, more lies, more drama, and certainly more media coverage. Stay tuned to read what happens to Ryan and Taryn next!!

Dearly, Departed Review

Dearly, Departed (Gone With the Respiration, #1)Dearly, Departed by Lia Habel

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Wow! Just WOW! I loved this book. Never, ever in my life did I think that I could grow to love a zombie, a rotting, dead corpse. This book was such an exciting read. I couldn't put the book down. I loved how Lia Habel wrote this book too, making each chapter a character, while maintaining a first person dialogue. It helped me connect with each character, while not loosing me.

The lead character Nora and her best friend Pam were kick-ass heroines. Bram (zombie) was so sweet, caring, and gentle, yet protective. I couldn't help but love him. I would definitely recommend this book.

Favourite Quote:

For my mother, who taught me early on that real ladies can give orders, real gentlemen can take them, and real zombies don't eat brains.

*Rubs Hands Together* Now for the ARC of Dearly Beloved. :D!!

Whispers at Moonrise Review and Interview with C.C. Hunter

Whispers at Moonrise (Shadow Falls, #4)Whispers at Moonrise by C.C. Hunter

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I am a Shadow Falls Street Team member, and I was given this ARC courtesy of CC Hunter and St. Martin's Griffin. Thank you!

I am a huge fan of this series and the fourth installment, Whispers at Moonrise is spellbinding! It never loses momentum. I didn't put it down until I finished it! CC Hunter is an amazing writer, she is great at evoking every emotion in her books. One minute I was laughing, the next my heart felt so heavy.

It seems like Kylie's life is nothing but questions. Every time she thinks she has something figured out, more questions arise. Now she knows what supernatural powers she possesses, but no idea what it means, nor how to harness them. Her Grandfather wants her to leave with him, promising to train her. Shadow Falls has been the only place that Kylie has fit in her whole life.

Added to her frustrations, Kylie has to deal with the profession of Derek's love, and Lucas' obligations to the Ware Council. A new ghost shows up, and resembles someone that Kylie is close to. She has to figure out what the ghost wants before someone else dies.

My favourite quote from the book:

Life could still hurt like a paper cut right across the heart.

And she had a few paper-cut scars to prove it. A vision of Ellie filled her heart. Yet as a breeze carrying the misty coolness brushed her face, the ache faded into acceptance. Every new day was about opportunities. You couldn't always control life, just your response to it.

My Evil Plan

I am Dr. Slimy. I am destined to Hop the Mushroom. Unfortunately, the Mushroom is full of a bunch of Pink Cowboy Boots that do not agree. I am sad to say that the Toothpaste Buster did not trigger the huge Cocktail Party as I planned for it to do. Instead, all it did was leap some postcards. So this is my new lackadaisical plan to take over the Mushroom:

Using my unlimited source of vitamins I inherited from my Hyenas I will build the largest blender in the Mushroom. I will then send it up into space aboard a trolley. It will be fully reflective and operable from a soft control. With it I will threaten to ruminate all the wheelbarrows owned by Microsoft unless the Mushroom bows before me. If they do not tiptoe me, I will turn my blender upon the Elevator islands and ruminate the entire thing. Then they will spin in their windmills and I will be the most powerful Flamingo in the Mushroom!

Blame It On Texas

Zoe Adams has always been content with her quiet nights at home, sitting alone on her couch munching popcorn and watching tv--until her life turns into a real-life episode of the Unsolved Mystery Hunters show she loves. The story of a kidnapped girl triggers unexplained memories, and Zoe is dead set on figuring out why. Her search leads her to one of the Lone Star state's richest families and to sexy PI Tyler Lopez.

Tyler has sworn off women, especially redheads with killer curves who poke their noses into his clients' personal affairs. Still, he can't deny the attraction any more than he can deny that some of Zoe's crazy story makes sense. But when she becomes a hit man's target, this cold case really starts heating up. Suddenly, Tyler will do anything to protect Zoe-even if it means risking his heart.

Ten Things You Will Learn from Blame It On Texas

1.      Guys don’t like to play dress up, but when one willingly dresses as a clown for their six-year-old niece’s birthday party—because the real clown canceled—he’s one special uncle.  And could possibly make a special hero for some lucky lady.
2.      Sometimes, fear itself can do much more damage to us than the thing we’re actually afraid of.
3.      Any man who doesn’t cuss up a blue streak when you dump a plate of hot grits on him can’t be all bad.  (In fact, he might just be The One.)
4.      It’s important to remember the lessons of the past so we can use them when making decisions for the future.  But those lessons should never keep us from the future we deserve.
5.      Before accusing the sexy guy who pounced, knocked you down, and crawled on top of you of being foreplay impaired, check to see if someone is shooting at you.
6.      The southern delicacy of a banana and mayonnaise sandwich may be an acquired taste, especially when a hungry hero chomps down on the delicacy and is expecting ham and cheese.
7.      If you think getting caught screaming and dancing on top of a mattress—all while attempting to rescue your cat from an overzealous dog—can be slightly embarrassing, try it while you’re wet from the shower, and as naked as a jay bird.  Oh, and you are caught by your possible love interest who hasn’t seen you naked yet, and  . . . (yes it can get worse) his two best friends.
8.      It’s downright amazing how playing a few rounds of Strip Scrabble can spice up an evening.
9.      A family doesn’t always have to be the people who share your bloodline; sometimes, the best families are those we make when we gather together all the people we love.
10.  Learning to trust yourself is usually a lot harder than trusting another person.  But both are generally required before finding true love.

Q: What Blogger inspires you? It can be any kind, it doesn’t have to be a book blog.

I would say the whole blogging community in general inspires me. I am new to the book blogging world, but I have noticed that most bloggers are super nice and helpful. They love books like me! One person in particular, Kirthi at Pages is exceptionally nice, helpful, and she helps get my creativity going. But I also think it is cool for the Bigger Blogs, like Parajunkee and I am a Reader, not a Writer to host hops for bloggers to meet one another.

OK.. so I would love to say Daemon, since I just finished reading Onyx yesterday.. but I used him last week. I was definitely swooning over him this week.

I am in the middle of Whispers at Midnight, the 4th book in the Shadow Falls series. I have always had a soft spot for Derek. He is a half-fae, that can read Auras and feel Kylie's feelings. He is uber sexy, and super sweet!

"Don't worry," Derek said. "I'll help you. And Besides, we have until Saturday to decide what to do next."
She look up at him with complete appreciation. "How could I ever thank you?"
He grinned with pure sex appeal, the gold flecks in his eyes brightening. "I could think of a few ways."

His gaze met hers. "But I can read you Kylie, and I know you don't want to admit it, but you care about me, too."
"Stop it," she said. "I care about you like a friend."
"No." He continued to stare. "It's more. But don't worry. In know you care about Lucas too. And that's my cross to bear because I pushed you right into his arms. And as long as you're happy, I can accept that. But if you're not-"

Weigh In Wednesday

A weekly meme sponsored by Epilogue. Each week there will be a something vs. something topic for you to post your thoughts about. Make sure to visit Lauren at her awesome blog, Epilogue Review, and also check out the other nifty blogs also participating. :)

Todays topic: reading a book vs. listening to an audio book

I would definitely rather read a book than listen to it. There are advantages to listening to an audio book, for instance you can do other tasks while listening. The problem for me is that I don't feel as connected with the book. Over the weekend, I was able to borrow Cinder from my libraries digital catalog, but it was an audio file. I fell asleep twice, and by the time it was done I was like.. "ehhhh it was ok." I honestly think that if I had gotten the book to read, I would've loved it.

MadLibs Monday and Giveaway with Tara Brown

This Monday's Madlib and giveaway features Tara Brown. She happens to be one of my favourite authors. Tara is very nice and humorous (as you will notice with the madlib). The 4th book in this series, Witch is scheduled to be released later this month. The series is in my top 5 of all time. Without further ado, Tara's Madlib, *blushes* I guess I was busy at my last job.

Letter of Recommendation

Dear Institute of Erotic Art:

Eight years ago the women of my company, Pete's Tickle Trunks, enjoyed learning the art of Seduction with Ashley Williams as a co-worker and fellow ingénue. Stunning Ashley worked hard when trying on the role of dom with the other women. Ever so convincingly, the beautiful, exciting and talented Ashley embraced her womanly curves when taking on the role of Lisa Emerson in our production of Exit to Eden.

Ashley, for a small girl, was especially good at whipping the horses and deer and could last hours before her forearms would cramp up. She showed dogged determination with learning anything she didn't know how to do and slightly excelled at pole dancing compared to the other girls.

Naughty Ashley, as we came to know her, lovingly and excitedly taunted the younger girls with her hairbrush spanking and wax burning. The other girls loved her smiling face, especially when working with Naomi and Angela in Cincinnati.

Your faithful friends,

Mistress T and Naughty Pete

The Lure of Shapinsay Review

The Lure of ShapinsayThe Lure of Shapinsay by Krista Holle

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I was given this book in exchange for an honest review from the author. Thank you Krista!

This book was great! I was skeptical to read The Lure of Shapinsay, because I typically read more contemporary novels, but I was quickly enveloped into the world that Krista had made. I was blown away at the love that the characters felt for one another, it was very touching. I had never heard of the Selkie (a seal man that can shed his skin and become a very beautiful man), but I'd sure like to be lured by one of them.. maybe not to my death though.

Kait lives with her twin brother on an Island in the North Sea. When a half-selkie infant was killed, Eamon went to seek revenge. He was determined to kill Kait. One night Kait awoke with a gorgeous Selkie man standing over her, inadvertently luring her. He couldn't go through with the deed. Time passes as does their paths, and they fall in love. They have a hard road ahead, especially with her hard headed Selkie-man. The two were drawn together but fate separated them. Can their love conquer all?

If you'd like to read a New Adult book with a fantastic romance, and a mysterious yet hot paranormal aspect, then I'd strongly recommend this book!

Swoon Thursday

A HAWT meme sponsored by YA Bound. From the book you’re currently reading, or one you just finished, tell us what made you SWOON. What got your heart pounding, your skin tingling, and your stomach fluttering.

Shout it out on Twitter with the hashtag #YABound, post it here in the comments, or grab the adorable button above and share it on your blog! We want to know :-)

I just finished reading Obsidian, in preparation for the Onyx release. Daemon Black is the very meaning of swoonworthy!

Here's part of my favorite scene:

"I bet you think about me all the time. Nonstop."

"You're insane." I pressed back against the wall, breathless.

"You probably even dream about me." His gaze lowered to my mouth. I felt my lips part. "I bet you even write my name in your notebooks, over and over again, with a little heart drawn around it."

I laughed. "In your dreams, Daemon. You're the last person I think-"

Daemon kissed me.

There wasn't a moment of hesitation. His mouth was on mine, and I stopped breathing. He shuddered and there was a sound from the back of his throat, half growl, half moan. Little shivers of pleasure and panic shot through me as he deepened the kiss, parting my lips. I stopped thinking. I pushed off the wall, sealing the tiny space between us, pressing against him, digging my fingers into his hair.

So what swoonworthy boy are you reading about this week?

Obsidian Review

Obsidian (Lux, #1)Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

*Takes a deep breath in* Ok, now that I've calmed myself... oh who am I kidding?!?! I cannot calm myself after the encounter I had with Obsidian!! Needless to say, I didn't heed warning and started reading this book at 9pm, I stayed up until 2am to finish. Obsidian is a page turner. There were several moments when my heart may have stopped beating. Obsidian has to be one of the top 5 books of the year for me.

I applaud Jennifer Armentrout for several different reasons. First and foremost, for making a lead character that I can 100% relate to, a shy/reader/blogger/nerd, but when challenged she doesn't back down. She would do anything for her friends. Secondly, Daemon Black!! The third reason for kudos, is the story line is extraordinary.. its witty, infuriating, steamy, exciting, that's just the tip of the iceberg. Lastly, Daemon Black..

I love the up and down relationship between Katy and Daemon. Their snarky banter had me ROFL. One of my favorite scenes:

"Is this what you do with your spare time?" He asked me, ignoring his sister.

"What-are you deciding to talk to me now?" Smiling tightly, I grabbed a handful of mulch and dumped it. Rinse and repeat. "Yeah, it's kind of a hobby. What's yours? Kicking puppies?"

Obsidian is YA Literature at its prime! A definite must read!!

Yesterday's Daughter Review

Yesterday's DaughterYesterday's Daughter by Sallie Lundy-Frommer

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I received this copy in exchange for an honest review. Thank you Sallie!

A very charming vampire novel! I loved the romance aspect between Grace and Malachi. The book was well balanced, with moments of bad-assness and touching moments of love. This book was written in 3rd person but Sallie balanced it with inner dialogue. I feel, though, if it were in 1st person that I would have connected with the characters more. I also liked the author's version of the Vampires and their world. I liked that she added her own paranormal race to this world. All-in-all I liked this book and recommend reading it.
