When Drake started the night at his father’s campaign fundraiser, he never imagined he’d end it being conned into buying drugs on the West Side. Losing high-stakes poker has its consequences, but he’d repeatedly face them just to hear Lacey Douglas sing. Drake sees Lacey light up the stage, and he has to have her. But his intentions for being on her side of town turn out to be the reason he can’t.
Chicago native Lacey has dreams of the opera, but life has its obstacles. Lacey has come to know her hardships as part of living in the real world and accepts them fully. When Lacey meets the intense and invigorating Drake, a fire is lit inside her, unleashing those dreams again.
Two paths that should have never crossed prove to create the exact pairing the other needs. But when their worlds take time to catch up, everything they have is tested. Finding the space between the two sides that challenge them will be hard, but it’s the only place that will keep them together.

The Space Between is a very sweet romance between Drake
and Lacey, who have absolutely nothing in common except for their connection
and love for each other. Drake is a politician's son, expected to keep up the
"perfection appearance" for his family and Lacey comes from the
"wrong side of the tracks", and is sacrificing her dreams of being an
actress and singer to care for her dying mother. Although their initial meeting
(that started with some steamy action and ended with Drake being arrested) was
brief, they realized they would be spending a lot of time together after
Drake's mother hires Lacey to be her at-home personal assistant (a.k.a. Drake's
nanny!!!!). They try to resist being together, due to the obvious obstacles
that are in their way, but their attraction is too strong and neither can keep
away from the other, and their love blooms.
This was a very beautiful story, I really enjoyed it. I
am a HUGE fan of dual POV's and Victoria Smith did a wonderful job at
transitioning back and forth between Drake and Lacey. This book was unique in
that the characters' love has to overcome social/class differences as well as
their racial differences (him being from Asian descent but brought up in a
wealthy Caucasian household, her being biracial, raised by her African American
mother and abandoned by her white father). Anyone who likes the angst of
forbidden romance, sarcastic and witty humor, and a HEA that will bring tears
to your eyes will love this book!

I really like the cover...for some reason I always pause when I see it. Maybe the colors?
