26-year old Gabriel Vincent is a badass hero. Or he used to be, anyway. As an ex-Army Ranger, Gabe never thought he needed anyone. But after one horrible night in Afghanistan scars him in a way that he can't get past, he needs someone who can help him heal...even if he doesn't realize it.
25-year old Madison Hill doesn't need anybody...or so she thinks. She grew up watching her parents' messed-up abusive relationship and she knows there's no way in hell that she's ever letting that happen to her.
They don't know it in the beginning, but Gabriel and Madison will soon develop a weakness: Each other.
But Gabriel's got a secret, a hidden monster that he's afraid Maddy could never overcome... And Maddy's got issues that she's afraid Gabe will never understand. They quickly realize that they need each other to be whole, but at the same time they know that they've got demons to fight.
And the problem with demons is that they never die quietly.
10 Things Gabe wants you to know about Madison
1. She’s the most beautiful person in the world- inside and out.
2. Even though she’s got a sharp bark, her bite doesn’t hurt. Much.
3. She’s afraid of the dark. She says she isn’t, but she is.
4. She’s got the ugliest feet in the world. But that’s okay. God can’t make a person perfect. Maddy’s feet are her imperfections.
5. She sings in the shower.
6. She wakes up every morning at 3:00 am sharp. She goes back to sleep, but only after she wakes me up. That’s okay, though. I’ll live with it.
7. She’s the most loyal person I know. And that’s saying something—I’ve served with loyal soldiers overseas.
8. She’s actually very tolerant. People might think she’s not because she’s very vocal with her opinions, but she puts up with a lot.
9. She drives like a maniac.
10. She is my entire world.
LOVED IT!! I didn't think it was possible for me to love this book more than If You Stay but I just may..
This was such an angsty/sexy rollercoaster of emotions! I could sympathize with both Maddy and Gabe, and definitely felt that they were the perfect couple for each other. They both are very protective over their sisters, and basically gave up their dreams for completely unselfish reasons.
Gabe is ex-military suffering from PTSD. He doesn't believe that he is worthy of redemption, nor leaving his dreams behind... until he meets Maddy. She gave up everything to live her parents dream and help her sister out. After growing up with her parents, Maddy gave up on love and looked for a sensible-safe relationship.. until she meets Gabe.
The two of them learn to take down their barriers together, but one night, one call could ruin everything they've worked for. There is tragedy, and a lot of healing in this book! I was on the verge of tears several times. I highly recommend this book!!

Courtney Cole is a novelist who would eat mythology for breakfast if she could. She has a degree in Business, but has since discovered that corporate America is not nearly as fun to live in as fictional worlds. She loves chocolate and roller coasters and hates waiting and rude people.
Courtney lives in quiet suburbia, close to Lake Michigan, with her real-life Prince Charming, her ornery kids (there is a small chance that they get their orneriness from their mother) and a small domestic zoo.
