Guarded by J.D. Rivera is one of those perfect afternoon reads. It is novella length, and although easy to get through in one sitting, the story most definitely isn't lacking. It is a duel POV between Vanessa, a soon-to-be divorcee and Jackson, a professional basketball player that just moved to her town. They run into each other (literally) and sparks fly. Although Vanessa's wounds from her failed marriage are still fresh, she knows from the moment she see him that he is different and she can't seem to walk away from him. Jackson is used to lots of women flocking over him for his fame, but after running into Vanessa, he knows she is a game changer. She does her best to resist Jackson at first, still not ready to trust after her ex husband repeatedly cheated on her and knowing of Jackson's past relationships from the media reports. But Jackson is committed to changing her mind about him and knows he has found his one and only in Vanessa. This was a great little afternoon delight, no overt drama, spicy sex scenes, and what all of us girls are looking for in a romance: a nice happily ever after.
