The sparks of dislike burn hot, but the sparks of mutual attraction burn even hotter.

Ever Montgomery suffered the ultimate betrayal by the one man who she should have been able to count on for anything. It has left her hurt, jaded and incapable of forming relationships, but it also means that she can spot a liar a mile away.  These traits are earning her a reputation as a reporter with a keen nose for a good story and a complete understanding of the extreme power of the written word.

Lincoln Caldwell, is the hot goalie for the New York Rangers. At twenty-four and a rising star, he works hard and he plays even harder. He’s gorgeous and carefree—the ultimate charmer.  Ladies fall at his feet and the single life has never been lived the way Linc Caldwell does it.

When Ever publishes an article about Linc containing information that she received off the record, she finds herself on the receiving end of the athlete’s fury.  Rather than basking in the glory of exposing Linc as a shameless user of women, she finds herself at his mercy when he demands and receives retribution.  Required by her editor to trail Linc for six weeks, Ever is forced to look at the real Linc Caldwell.

And she just might find that she has misjudged him.

Off the Record by Sawyer Bennett, the third book in the Off series, does not disappoint! As with the characters in the previous editions, Ever and Linc have HOT HOT HOT chemistry and Bennet’s story telling is as captivating as ever.
We are first introduced to Ever Montgomery as a younger woman, being completely devastated and heartbroken as her father leaves her and her mother. Flash forward a few years and the trauma of the loss of the one man most women grow up to depend on, has left Ever as callous, cold hearted, and always waiting for the bottom to drop out in all her relationships with men. Her journalism career leads her into Lincoln Caldwell’s path, a young, hot, lady-killer who plays goalie for the New York Rangers hockey team. Although her interview for her lifestyle article went smoothly, Linc already working on charming her, Ever’s following discoveries (some true, some false) leads her to publish an article demeaning him and his womanizing ways. Linc obviously is not too happy with what he (and all of New York) reads, and threatens to file a slander lawsuit against the paper unless Ever agrees to write a retraction after spending 6 weeks with Linc, getting to know the “real him.” It doesn't take long once the two are together for the sparks to fly and things really heat up! I really liked that with these two characters it was Ever who was only interested in a sexual relationship (having lost all trust and optimism in men) and Linc melted her icy heart and got her to open up to him and fall in love with his sweet ways.

I really enjoyed this story. Although it is a quick read, it doesn't miss a beat in the development of the relationship between the two characters. There aren't any boring or unnecessary parts just to build up the content, it had a very nice balance of sweet moments to hot sex scenes. Even though Ever and Linc initially have the love/hate type relationship, Bennett does a really believable job at transitioning them to their love/love state. All in all, great New Adult, and although there are some scenes that will make you blush and have to fan yourself, it will leave you with a warm heart.

Sawyer Bennett is the pen name for a snarky southern woman and reformed trial lawyer who decided to finally start putting on paper all of the stories that were floating in her head. She is married to a mobster (well, a market researcher) and they have two big, furry dogs who hog the bed. Sawyer would like to report she doesn't have many weakness but can be bribed with a nominal amount of milk chocolate.
