She’s just not sure she wants it anymore.

Her best friend is threatening to tell everyone her perfect relationship is a scam.
Her perfect boyfriend gets drunk at every party they go to.
It’s exhausting always trying to look and act perfect.
And deep down, she isn’t sure if she has any true friends.

To add to the drama, her movie star mom’s long-time fan has turned stalker.
An older man is flirting with her and telling her they should make a movie together.
And she’s crushing on an adorable surfer. Dating a guy like him would mean committing social suicide.

Rouge Blog Tour and Giveaway

Trapped in the underground theater world of 1890s New Orleans, Hale Ferrer has only one goal: escape. But not without Teeny, the orphan-girl she rescued from the streets and promised to protect.

Freddie Lovel, Hale's wealthy Parisian suitor, seems to be the easy solution. If only his touch could arouse her interest like Beau's, the penniless stagehand who captures her heart.

Denying her fears, Hale is poised to choose love until an evil lurking in their cabaret-home launches a chain of events that could cost her everything.

Review

Rouge is a charming, angsty read. I enjoyed Moore's writing and really liked the setting! I am usually not one to read historical, but the time period was not overpowering. It was a light easy read with just enough spicy scenes to make delectable. The story did end on a cliffhanger, and I thought it could've been a bit longer.

Cover and Writing
I really like the cover to this book. I think it suits the time period and the subject matter of the book, and it's just all over pretty! The writing was in the first person from Hale's POV. The thing I liked the most about Moore's writing, was that the story was the focus was on Hale and didn't swarm you with useless historical information. I was a bit worried when I picked this book up.

Main Character
I liked Hale, she was a normal 18 year old growing up in a cabaret theater. She puts Teeny's happiness and welfare above her own and to me that's admirable.

Swoonworthy Points: 7.5
There were some very swoonworthy moments between Beau and Hale.. some steamy and some angsty. I think the angst outweighed the swoon, thus making the swoon factor go down a bit for me. There was a bit of a triangle, though Hale was not confused on whom she wanted to be with, but choose who she had to be with to protect her friend.

All in all, Rouge was a good read and I would recommend it.

When We Collide Tour Stop and Giveaway

When We CollideWhen We Collide by A.L. Jackson

William has spent six years running from his past and the last eight months trying to rid his mind of the dreams that increasingly haunt his nights. Trapped in a world of false ambitions and feigned affections, William knows he’s reached a breaking point and something’s going to give.

Maggie had lived her entire life without hope until one man showed her what it meant to be loved. He’d been her light in a lifetime of darkness. Six years ago, that darkness stole him away. Without him, she’s surrendered herself to an existence she doesn’t know how to escape.

When the family William left behind is struck by tragedy, he is called back to the one place he’s sworn to never return to again.

In a moment that will change his life forever, William comes face to face with the girl who, with one look, captured his heart. He is unable to ignore the buried desires and the hope for the future they’d once believed they’d have.

Now William is ready to fight to take back what had been stolen from him six years before.
But he never imagined what that fight might cost him.

A.L. Jackson gives you an intimate look into the lives of a family bound by an unseen connection in this new contemporary romance.

Review
Fantastic! I loved this book for several reasons.. one for the message that it delivers, and two for how Jackson handled the message. It deals with abuse, and the message is clear.. Don't stick in those relationships. But the finesse in which the message is delivered makes you fall in love with the characters and the story. Oh and the plot takes you on a few heart-wrenching turns!

Cover and Writing Style
I love the cover, and it suits the story. BUT I feel like the cover should be a bit more contemporary; at first glance I thought the cover was for a paranormal novel. I love the writing style Jackson used in this novel. It had two POV's as well as past/present tense narration, which made the book exciting to read!

Main Character
This is a hard one because the story is told from two POV's. But the main character is William, and I love him... feel bad for him.. want to hug him. He fell hard, and Maggie wasn't there to catch him. He was hurt but also very much in love.

Swoonworthy Points: 7
Despite this being a story about Maggie's abuse, it was also very swoonworthy.. especially the flashbacks to their earlier years.. When Williams was courting Maggie. He was sweet, kind, caring, protective, patient.. everything you could ever ask for in a man.

I love it!! I would highly recommend this book!

Guest Post by A.L. Jackson

Hey all! I’m A. L. Jackson, author of Pulled and Take This Regret. I want to thank Taking it One Page at a Time for asking me to share with you today on my 10 Tips On Becoming a Better Writer.

I spent some time contemplating whether I wanted to focus on the overall picture and lifestyle of being a writer, or if I wanted to focus on craft. In the end I thought I’d give you a little of both.

So here it goes ~ A. L. Jackson’s 10 Tips to Becoming a Better Writer

1. Never give up. Yes, this is a general philosophy that can be applied to almost any passion, but one that is essential to being a writer. If you’ve chosen writing or becoming an author as your passion and aspiration, then expect that there will be a lot of discouragement that will come with it. There will be times when it feels as if it is just not worth it. But there will also be times, like when you hold your published book in your hands, when it feels like the most amazing thing in the world.

2. Outline. If you’re writing your first book, I strongly recommend that you begin with an outline. It’s essential to know where you’re beginning, the direction you’re heading, and your ultimate destination. Be sure that the plot makes sense and you can clearly see how you can take your reader on this journey. You’ll have plenty of space to allow your characters and plot to grow and develop as you write, but an outline will help you to stay on the right track. After that first book, you should be able to tell if you’re a stronger writer with or without an outline.

3. Continue to read. Read the classics, read the bestsellers, and read in your genre. Allow yourself to be inspired!

4. Find a critique partner you trust. I can’t emphasize this enough. A critique partner can help you see the holes in your plot and characterization issues that we, as writers, can’t see. Often these things are clear in our heads, but it may not come across that way to the reader. Plus it’s so encouraging to have another writer friend who we can toss ideas around with and support each other in our writing. On a side note: Be sure this critique partner’s interest is in helping you become a better writer and not in tearing you down.

5. Look for common themes, words, and phrases in your manuscript. Most authors have favorite words and phrases. Identify them and be sure you don’t overuse them.

6. Get rid of those adverbs! I recommend doing a search through all the adverbs in your manuscript. If you can replace an adverb with strong verbs and descriptions instead (which you almost always can), do it.

7. Show, don’t tell. Bet you haven’t heard that before  Don’t tell us your character feels sad, but describe the scene unfolding that made brought on the sadness, the actions of the character in response to it, and give clear descriptions of what the character is experiencing and feeling.

8. Approach editing with an open mind. Our first instinct as writers can be to be defensive of our work, but open your mind to suggestions given to you by your editor and/or critique partner. Editors are there to help make our books better, not tear them apart. If you disagree with a suggestion, take the time to discuss it with your editor and see if the two of you can work together to create a good solution.

9. Don’t let formatting or punctuation marks tell your story for you. Don’t overuse italics for emphasis or exclamation marks to show excitement. Let your story speak for itself.

10. Continue to write. The more you write, the better writer you’ll become. Plus, you love it, right? So sit back and enjoy what you do.

Thank you again to Taking it One Page at a Time. Wishing you all much luck in your writing endeavors!

In Flight Review

In Flight (Up In The Air, #1)In Flight by R.K. Lilley

ERMAGERD!!!!! Why haven't more people read this!?!?

Here's a little rant for this book, then I'll get on with my normal review. I have, like everyone else, read a lot of Millionaire/Dom meets Virgin/Alpha Male/With a effed up past books lately, and this is positively my favourite thus far! Why? Because its funny, and angsty, and smexy, and charming, hot, steamy, and any other adverb you wanna throw in there. The Dom was everything (will go into detail later), the story wasn't giving you a documentary on the history of BDSM, and the erotica was different and well disbursed. I've read a lot of erotica lately that has too many erotic scenes or it has the same old spankin' then sexin' scenes. Boring. In Flight introduces a few different erotic components that make you feel warm all over.. um yeah.. that's what I'll go with "warm."

Love Revolution Promo and Giveaway

Love Revolution, (Black Cat Records, #2)

The wheels of love are always turning at Black Cat Records. Things are just starting to settle down there, but two Texas sisters are fixin’ to stir things up again at the Vancouver record label. CEO Mary Timmons sets spirited country superstar, Sara Daniels, on a collision course with cocky rocker, Chris Alex. Meanwhile, Brutal Strength’s suave drummer, JR, has his head turned by pretty young intern, Samantha Daniels. Do all their highways lead to happiness or will the wheels fly off when the sisters’ tragic past comes back to haunt them?

Love Revolution is a rock ‘n roll romance inspired by Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing and is the second book in the Black Cat Records Trilogy.

Book Excerpt

The 2nd book in the Black Cat Records Shakespeare inspired series has more MUSIC, more ROMANCE, and much, much, more STEAM...

A lone spotlight illuminated JR as he began to lay down a heavy beat. Strobes flashed as Avery stepped out from behind the black curtain to meet Marcus at center stage. He reached for her, but she leaned away, just out of reach. She winked at him and smiled at the audience. The crowd roared their approval...For Sam, the spotlight stayed on JR. She didn't notice anyone else. Frenetic, yet fluid, he flailed away on the drums like a madman, a modern day Keith Moon. His sticks spun like twin rotator blades on a Chinook helicopter, and his knees moved up and down, pistons pounding out a rhythm.

Her whole body came alive at the first touch of his warm lips on hers, the tender way he‘d looked at her the moment before a tantalizing preview of the gentle way he was devouring her lips now.

An anticipatory thrill ran down her spine as Chris Alex stalked her. Sara cast her gaze around the room, trying to avoid gaping at his naked torso. No use. Pupils dilated, her eyes followed the trail of brown hair down to the point where it tapered and disappeared into the waistband of his low hanging jeans. Oh, no. Wrong place to look. Look up. Look up. Icy fire ran through her veins. She licked her dry lips and nervously balled up her hands...

Love Evolution, (Black Cat Records #1)

After the death of her twin brother, nineteen year old guitar prodigy Avery Jones finds herself desperate, alone, and out of options. Hope arrives in the form of a job opening with Brutal Strength, one of the biggest rock bands out there. Only problem is temperamental lead singer Marcus Anthony doesn't want a woman in the group. So Avery and her manager Trevor come up with a plan involving a Bieber haircut and men's clothing. No one seems to be onto their little con. But what happens when Avery starts falling for Marcus? Will she be able to continue with the farce or will the whole thing come crashing down around her like a house of cards?

Love Evolution (the first in a planned trilogy) is a rock 'n roll romance based on Shakespeare's Twelfth Night.

Michelle Mankin is a young adult romance writer as well as a self-proclaimed giant... inside of her own mind!

For many years she worked in the insurance industry as an underwriter. Somehow, the boredom didn't kill her but the hour and hours of looking at facts and figures provided ample time for her mind to wander.

Love Evolution is her debut novel. A rock 'n roll romance based on Shakespeare's Twelfth Night. It is the first in a planned trilogy using the plot underpinnings of Shakespeare combined with the drama, excitement, and indisputable sexiness of the rock 'n roll industry.

When she is not putting her daydreams down on paper, you can find her traveling the world with her family, sometimes for real, and sometimes just for pretend as she takes the children to school and back.

Cover Reveal- Some Quiet Place

Today The Mod Podge Bookshelf and Mod Podge Blog Tours are hosting Kelsey Sutton's Some Quiet Place cover reveal!

Summary:

Elizabeth Caldwell has perfected the art of pretending to feel emotion, but it’s always a lie. After a near-fatal car accident when she was a small child, Elizabeth lost the ability to feel any emotion, but along with that loss she gained bizarre abilities: she can see the personified Emotions she cannot feel.  Fury, Resentment, Longing—they’ve all given up on her, because she doesn't succumb to their touch. All, that is, save one. Fear. He’s consumed by the mystery of Elizabeth’s past, consumed by her.

And then there are Elizabeth's cryptic, recurring dreams, in which there’s always love, and there’s always death. Haunted by these dreams, Elizabeth paints them, knowing that they somehow hold the key to the mystery of her past.

But a shadowy menace is stalking Elizabeth.  Her survival depends on uncovering the truth about herself.  And when it matters most, she won’t be able to rely on Fear to save her.

Kelsey is very enthusiastic about her debut novel's cover; here is what she has to say about the design:

"It is gorgeous, eerie, and maybe a little strange. I love how much relevance it has to the story, as well. The farmland in the background, the town, the stormy sky, the leaves, the way the girl is vanishing. The point is, I am in love. Hope you adore it as much as I do."

What relevance is she talking about?

Enter to win a Pre-Order of Some Quiet Place below to find out!!!

Make it Last Promo and Giveaway

In a small town, it's hard to recover from being dumped by your high school sweetheart. That's just what Briana has to do after Colin leaves her to follow his dreams. She focuses her energy into her friendships and the pursuit of her own goal of becoming a chef. Just when she finally feels like she's on the right path, he comes back to town.

Colin knew breaking up with Briana before leaving for college was the right thing to do. He was determined to leave small-town life behind forever, and that included his high school girlfriend. But when a sports injury puts him on the sidelines, he's forced to return home. Seeing Briana again brings back a lot of memories, and Colin wonders if he made the right decision. It doesn't take long for him to realize he wants her back, and this time, he wants to make it last.

Book Excerpt

“What did you come here for, Bree? Go back to your boyfriend and leave me be.”
“I don’t have a boyfriend.” Briana retorted. “I haven’t had the stomach for one since you left.”
Colin took a step closer. “That Kent guy isn’t your boyfriend?”
“No,” Briana responded. “Look, I came here because I was pissed that you got mad at us. You have no reason to be mad. I don’t get why you’re. You’re the one who left. You didn’t want me then, so why do you care now?”
With that she whirled towards the door, intent on leaving.
She only made it a couple steps before Colin grabbed her arm and whirled her back. He walked her quickly backwards until she was stopped by the door.
Before she could register what was happening, she was flat against the door and his mouth was on hers.
She didn’t think, she just reacted.
Her hands came up around his neck and his fastened under her bottom and lifter her up. She wrapped her legs around his waist, to get stabilized, then met his hot, hungry mouth with her own.
They kissed frantically, as if they had been starved for the contact. When his mouth left hers to trail kisses down her throat, her head fell back to allow him better access. As he licked his way back up to her mouth, she groaned loudly, and he paused to look at her.
“Wanting you was never the problem,” He stated, eyes black with need, then dove back in and began to drive her slowly crazy.
