Ever since the one time Andie Weber threw caution to the wind - and paid the price for it - she’s learned that it’s safer and smarter to live life playing by the rules. Now she’s got a great apartment, a steady job, and a wonderful boyfriend in Colin; he’s sweet, stable, and essentially perfect – except maybe for the fact that his best friend is Chase.
Chase McGuire lives his carefree, unstructured life strictly for himself. Dripping sarcasm and oozing wit, he refuses to censor his feelings or opinions for anyone, making no apologies for either and wearing his abrasiveness like a badge of honor. No one has ever gotten under Andie’s skin the way Chase does – and vice versa.
So when Andie and Chase find themselves forced to take a two-day road trip together, they are already dreading an inevitable all-out war. But as the trip progresses, and the undeniable friction that has always defined their relationship slowly begins to wear away their preconceived notions of each other, Andie and Chase discover they both have a lot to learn about life, courage, happiness, and the age-old battle between logic and love.
My Review
After reading Back to You, I became a Priscilla Glenn fangirl. Emancipating Andie book solidifed that status! I read the book from start to finish in one sitting! It was sweet and funny, an overall beautiful romance. In the beginning of the book Andie is kind of a prude, everything was safe and structured. She didn't color out of the lines. Then she meets Chase, and he is the exact opposite of Andie. He lived for himself and did what made him happy. The two ride together to Florida and the stops along the way slowly chip away at Andie's tough exterior. Both of them had some tough past and dealt with it in their own way, but in the end you realize that they were made for each other. But can Andie let go of her safety net, and will Chase go after what he wants when his best friend is standing in the way?
I think the thing I like most about Glenn's writing is that it's so easy to realate to. The scenes, feelings, and overall plot is something that, as a reader, anyone can relate to. EA was well paced, and had a lot of wonderful settings. I could relate to Andie and her fears, and I loved Chase and his snark. Overall it was a fantastic read that I'd happliy recommend to any Adult Contemporary fan!
One of my favorite scenes from the road trip:
She heard him laugh to himself just before he brought the bottle to his mouth, and in that moment, something came over her.
Andie brought her foot down hard on the gas pedal, and as soon as the care accelerated, she slammed on the brake. She saw Chase fly forward and then back as soda gushed over his chin and down the front of his shirt.
He brought the back of his hand to his mouth, immediately looking out the window for whatever caused andie to hit the breaks so suddenly.
"What the hell was that?" he asked frantically.
Andie shrugged. "Payback."
Purchase Emancipating Andie
If you catch her when she's feeling sophisticated, she'll tell you her favorite things are great books and good wine. In the moments in between, she'll admit her love for anything Ben and Jerry's, UFC fights, and Robert Pattinson.
Emancipating Andie is Glenn’s second novel. She is also the author of the contemporary romance/young adult crossover, Back to You.
