Release Me Review

Release MeRelease Me by J. Kenner

Seriously, this is probably my favourite erotic book I've read this year! Yes, it is similar to Fifty Shades of Grey, (which I for one did enjoy).. BUT it is written way better. I think the best thing about this book is Kenner's writing. For one, it was slightly less about D/s relationship and more about an actual relationship. It didn't go through the whole explanation of what a BDSM relationship was, nor what it meant to be submissive.. honestly it didn't need it. Damien Stark was pure Alpha male, but he was also sincere, kind, caring, thoughtful.

I was slightly surprised at the speed in which their relationship advanced, but it wasn't a factor for me. I also would've liked a bit more at the ending. We don't even know what the painting that was commissioned by Mr. Stark was finished and how it looked. Which leads me to believe that there will be a second book(??).

Cover/ Writing Style
I think the cover could use some work. If I weren't provided an ARC for this book, I probably wouldn't have read it. However I am very happy I did. It is written in the first person from Nikki's POV.

Main character
The main character was Nikki (which is my nickname so there is an added bonus). She just moved to California from Texas to start anew. She's a science nerd which is awesome. Nikki like everyone else has scars, only hers are more visible. The fact that she hasn't really been close to anyone is sad, and I was glad that she found someone to be herself around. She started the story with a stern facade but ended with just being herself.

Swoonworthy scale: 8.5
This book was major swoony, I mean.. yes it was erotic and those scenes were steamy, but Damien stark actually swooned Nikki. He was very thoughtful with his gifts, and even sent her notes telling her that he was thinking of her!

I loved her assessment of Damien's looks too!

The brashness of youth has been replaced by a mature confidence. He is Jason and Hercules and Perseus--a figure so strong and so beautiful and heroic that blood of the gods must flow through him, because how else could a being so fine exist in this world?

For all I know, I've gone spinning off into space. But no, I'm right there, floor beneath me, walls around me, and Damien Stark's eyes on mine.

Summary

Nikki meets Damien Stark at a party and the two were instantly attracted to each other. The problem Damien is controlling and always gets what he wants, and he wants all of Nikki. Nikki is afraid to give him all of herself, in fear that he won't find all of her appealing. Offers are presented, negotiations and conditions are made and the two become inseparable. That is until the past comes back to haunt them. Will they make it through the turmoil or their past tear them apart?

I truly enjoyed this book it's like Gabriel's Inferno meets Fifty Shades.

(BTW this copy was provided by Netgalley and Random House Publishing Group, in exchange for an honest review)
