I was provided an ARC copy of Slammed courtesy of Netgalley and Simon & Schuster, in exchange for an honest review.
Go. Get. This. Book. Now!
Slammed was great.. so..so..so heart wrenching! I literally went through two boxes of tissues while reading this. (The only other time I've cried this much and hard was while watching P.S. I Love You) Don't get me wrong, there are up moments and funny moments too! The romance was infuriating yet perfect, and very swoony. I think out of all the books I've read this year, this has to be the most realistic reads yet. I could easily relate with the characters and the situation. I had sooo many notes on my kindle for this book.
People make spontaneous decisions based on their hearts all the time. There's so much more to relationships than just love.
Love.. Slammed takes you through all extremes of the form love... hate and loss, but also joy and infatuation. I had to put the book down a few times, so my emotions could catch up with it all. I have to say, I judged this book by it's cover.. and was really sad that I didn't get to this book sooner. (don't get me wrong, it's fitting for the subject but if I could change anything about the book it would be the cover.) I loved all of the characters especially Layken's little brother Kel.
Summary
Layken and her family are moving to Michigan due to financial issues. Her father died and her mother couldn't afford to live in Texas anymore. The day they arrive, Layken meets Will and his little brother. Layken and Will quickly hit it off after going out on a date to a slam. But they realize all too quickly that they cannot be together. Layken's family is forced with yet another family tragedy. Will their bond be strong enough to pull their relationship back together?
This book was amazing!
